Sleep In For The Cure Challenge

Did you know that Denver is the largest Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the US? Sunday, October 8th is race day and this is an official challenge to ALL married women in Colorado! I am sending out an official statewide challenge to get your own team together to ‘Sleep-in For the Cure!’ Busy with the kids? Do you work all week and want to relax on Sunday morning? Then this challenge is definitely for YOU! Both of my grandmothers died from cancer so this event has deep meaning for me and I would appreciate your help by getting involved in this challenge! Pledges will be accepted for up to one-week following the race so be sure to help by taking this challenge this Sunday by supporting the leading organization for breast cancer research and awareness. If you are a married woman in Colorado and can’t make it on Sunday you can still help by Sleeping-In for the Cure! If you are interested in participating in this fun and worthwhile challenge, here’s how YOU can make a difference... Visit the Denver Race for the Cure website at http://www.raceforthecure-denver.com/site/TR?fr_id=1020&pg=entry and then click on the register now button. You then can either click on and register as an individual or register a team if you have 10 friends who would want to participate! It’s easy and fun and a great way to show your support for this amazing event!

Miss Colorado USA and Miss Colorado Teen USA Pageant

I had the best time last weekend in Loveland, Colorado serving as a judge for the Miss Colorado USA Pageant. The Miss Colorado Teen USA pageant was held at the same time. The judging panel was amazing and such a fun group to spend the weekend with! Colorado has two beautiful representatives for 2007, who will no doubt do well at Nationals.

Walk to Cure Diabetes

Mrs. Colorado and former Mrs. Colorados were in Colorado Springs Saturday, September 16th to support the Walk to Cure Diabetes. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. It was fun to enjoy lunch and visit together afterwards.

Race For The Cure -- Mom's In Motion

It was a great way to celebrate coming home from Mrs. America by running in the Race For The Cure 5K with the Mom's In Motion group in Colorado Springs yesterday. The race was held at Iron Horse Park on the Fort Carson Army Base.

Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival Parade

Through rain and shine...I enjoyed the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival Parade. Terry Higgins (Austin Higgins father http://www.lostandfoundinc.org/austinhigginsmemorial.asp) drove the float, while Shaul Turner (Fox 31 News) and I rode in back. Each year Lost and Found, Inc. participates in the parade with their Guinness Book of World Records largest carnation arrangement by a florist. I had to remind Barry Brown (Lost and Found, Inc.) that I didn't need any red carpet treatment. A born and raised farm girl...riding in a pick up is old hat to me!

Mrs. America Send Off Dinner

Thanks to all the former Mrs. Colorado's who joined together for my Mrs. America Send Off Dinner last night. The only thing that topped the food and gifts was perhaps the stories! Thanks to the amazing staff at the Chinook Tavern in Cherry Creek North for making the evening a night of being treated like queens.

One of my first appearances....

One of my first appearances after being crowned Mrs. Colorado was a luncheon at the Rolling Hills Country Club in Golden, where Coach Bill McCartney delivered a motivational talk. It was my pleasure to meet Coach McCartney and the Director of the Colorado FCA. I was especially thankful to Joe and Gale Coors for inviting me to the memorable event.

KOSI 101.1 Interview

What a great night with Rashke on KOSI 101.1! It was so much fun to just chat with the girls! Tricia and I spent the evening speaking with Rashke about "wishes" and "goals," the Mrs. Colorado organization and my upcoming trip to the Mrs. America competition.

Fitness Together

Here's the Fitness Together Ad that will run in the Your Hub section of the Denver Post August 17, 24, and 31. For those of you looking for a different kind of gym, one that gives you the results you desire for competition, contact the folks at Fitness Together. They have been so good to me! They were pivotal in helping me take the "baby weight" off 2 years ago!

Having Dreams and Setting Goals...

That was the theme for our visit with the girls at Lost and Found Residential Facility this week. It was powerful to share our stories (Tricia Dampier, State Director and Julie Nutter, Mrs. Foothills 2006, also participated) and to listen deeply to the girls' stories.

How amazing these girls are! We talked about dreams and the difference between a "wish" and a "goal." It was amazing to hear teenage girls talk about the meaning of each word and the specific goals that they personally want achieve.

It was fun to see each of the girls' faces light up when I crowned them!

Royal Baby Shower

Mrs. Colorado's got together to celebrate the coming of Baby Boy Stark (James and Emily Stark, Mrs. Colorado 2002). It was great to visit and laugh with all. The husbands took the title of "Guesstures Champs." But that title will be short lived, as we'll all need to get together soon to redeem ourselves! :-)

Colorado and Company

Hope all of you were able to tune in today for the Colorado and Company program! I'm so excited and honored to have the opportunity to speak the message of the Mrs. Colorado America organization in the media. The last couple of weeks have been so rewarding. Owen (21 months) still isn't sure who he's watching on T.V. I think the crown is throwing him off. :-) I look forward to more appearances and the chance to speak about Mrs. Colorado America's involvement with Veteran's Hospital, Lost and Found, Champa House and Families First in the weeks to come. Speaking about my plans for starting the Mrs. Colorado Foundation is equally exciting. Hope all of you are enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather!

Have a great weekend!

Marney
