Christmas in Manitou Springs

On December 12, I spent the afternoon greeting children and festive holiday shoppers in downtown Manitou Springs at the Clock Tower with Santa Claus. It was so much fun to see all the kids with wonderment in their eyes telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas. What a great way to get into the holiday spirit!

This gentleman made a fabulous Santa Claus!

Of course I had to get my picture with the adorable bull dog

This little girl was so cute! She looked like she strolled right off of the Gap Christmas commercial!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays to you all! I find it hard to believe that Christmas time is upon us, and 2010 is right around the corner! I hope you’ve had a wonderful 2009, and may your new year be full of much happiness!

Royal Regards,
Megan Yarberry
Mrs. Colorado 2009

The Yarberry Family

Embark on YOUR journey!

I've held the title of Mrs. Colorado for 7 months now, and it's been the ride of a lifetime! As I look back on this past year, it's made me very sentimental because I'm over halfway through with what will go down in history as one of the greatest years of my life. During my years competing for the title, I thoroughly enjoyed every single experience that I had on my journey to the crown. And being Mrs. Colorado has been a dream come true!
So to those of you who have ever thought about competing in this pageant, and would like to experience all that it has to offer, I would like to ecourage you to take that leap of faith and DO IT! This, I promise you, is an incredible journey! Now go start your's!

Fox Box - November 20, 2009

On November 20th, I had the opportunity to appear for my second time on Fox 31/KDVR during “Good Day Colorado” on a segment called “Fox Box.” The host of the show, Shaul Turner, myself, and two other guests talked about topics currently making the news right now. We discussed the new book released by Sarah Palin, the controversial issue of women waiting until the age of 50 for mammograms, the violent acts displayed by a female soccer player from New Mexico, and reasons for addiction in light of Great American Smoke Out. I have really enjoyed being a part of the show, and hope to make a return appearance soon!

On the set with the very talented and beautiful host of Fox Box, Shaul Turner.

Royal Image Boutique Holiday Open House

I was happy to support Raeanne Duca of the Royal Image Boutique at her holiday open house. She has tons of great clothes and accessories for the holiday season. In addition to her clothing, she has a very large selection of pageant gowns. Check out her website at www.royalimageboutique.com to get some great holiday must-haves!

Girl Scouts Poetry Reading

I was honored when my director, Emily Stark, told me that her daughter had the opportunity to invite one special woman in her life to her Girl Scouts Poetry Reading, and she chose me! It was great seeing these girls present themselves so well, and how involved they are with their community at such a young age.

Me and Lexi, the sweetheart who chose me as her special guest.

"Black and Bling" Runway Show

The man of the night, DJ McDermott

On November 15 I participated in my good friend, DJ McDermott’s runway show. The show was entitled “Black and Bling” and showcased DJ’s book entitled "Updo-ology". I acted as one of the models for the runway show, along with some of my “Queen Sisters”, and other pageant titleholders. DJ and his assistant Courtnee styled all of the models’ hair, Kari Kisch was the makeup artist, and Megan Anderson of Graphique Photography took photos. The event was a great success and a lot of fun!

Zarlengo Foundation Ball

The Zarlengo Foundation Ball is a great annual event that places much needed emphasis on learning disabilities in our youth. All the proceeds from this event went towards the Havern Center, which is a school for learning disabled children at the elementary and middle school levels. The funds given to the center are used for things such as scholarships, teacher training, and classroom materials. The theme of this year’s ball was “Believe in Me,” and featured actor, producer and humanitarian, Danny Glover, as well as actor and director, Felix Justice. Mr. Glover spoke about his own struggles with dyslexia, and inspired the crowd with his story of success.
I was honored to be a part of this wonderful event, and modeled a 7 karat diamond ring that was offered in one of raffles. I would like to thank the Zarlengo family for including my husband and I in this wonderful event!

Here is the 7 karat diamond ring, which was valued at over $9,000!

Another one of the items available in the raffle was this scooter

I was so excited that my dress matched the colors of the event….and I didn’t even plan it!

I just had to take a picture of the desert, which featured the event theme “Believe in Me”. It was very yummy!

And here I am with the lucky winner of the 7 karat diamond ring. I was hoping that my raffle ticket would be the lucky winner, but this lady was so excited about her big win and I was so happy for her.

Bare Escentuals - Holiday Premier

The Bare Escentuals store at the Cherry Creek Mall had their holiday product premier on November 10th, and I was asked to be a special guest to greet the customers. Jeffery, the store manager, did my make-up in all the new holiday colors. They have a lot of great limited edition holiday products, so make sure to check them out. I just had to buy a few for myself, too!

Touch of Love Florist Open House

The annual Touch of Love Christmas Open House Party was held on November 6th. Touch of Love is a fabulous florist in my hometown of Canon City, who has been very supportive of me during my years of being involved with the Mrs. Colorado Pageant, so I was honored to act as a “guest of honor” at their event. During their open house they showcase their new holiday merchandise, as well as offer a multitude of yummy food, and the best egg nog in the world!

Me with the Touch of Love crew

All the employees of Touch of Love and helpers of the event get beautiful fresh flower corsages to wear for the evening, and they were kind enough to make me one too. This picture doesn’t come close to showing how awesome this corsage was!

With my mom and dad. My dad’s birthday was the same day as this event, so I was very happy to have him there.

My supportive Mr. Colorado

My best friend Mandi and I have been BFF’s since high school. She is the true definition of an amazing best friend!

In 2007, Staci was the 1st Runner Up in the pageant that I direct (the Canon City Music and Blossom Festival Pageant)

Taylor is the current 1st Runner Up in the Blossom Pageant, and is also one of the cheerleaders that I coach at Canon City High School.

YouthBiz Fundraiser: Bash at the Biz

YouthBiz is an organization committed to encouraging at-risk youth in the community of Denver to become active in their learning and success. I was honored to be a model during their “Bash at the Biz” fundraiser event on November 5th. This organization is one that I can closely relate to, as I mentor teenagers in my community of Canon City as well. Anytime people share their time to help better our youth, I commend them.

All the models had their hair and make-up done by Rebelle Salon….I just loved how mine turned out!

Mrs. Colorado Pageant Director, Emily Stark, was one of my guests for the evening.

I spent Halloween weekend in Greeley, Colorado at the 2010 Miss Colorado USA and 2010 Miss Teen Colorado USA Pageant. I had the opportunity to greet the guests as they came in to watch the show.

Congratulations to Miss Colorado USA 2010, Jessica Hartman.

With Rick Cruz, the proud father of Colorado's own Miss Teen USA 2008, Hilary Cruz. I met Rick last year at the Miss Wyoming USA/Miss Teen Wyoming USA Pageant where we were both judges.

Hooah Radio Interview

On a very chilly October 25th, I did a phone-in interview with Dom on Hooah Radio in celebration of their 4th Birthday. I had the opportunity to give a shout out to our very brave and amazing troops overseas fighting for our freedom.

Hooah Radio is a free, Internet-based radio station intended to provide entertainment to the men and women overseas, and to connect them to their families and friends. This is a wonderful concept that I'm proud to support. For more information, to make a donation, or to listen to Hooah Radio, visit their website at www.hooahradio.com.

Kauai, Hawaii

In October my husband, in-laws and myself took a much needed vacation to Kauai, Hawaii. We did lots of laying on the beach, shopping, and enjoying the warm island sun before coming home to a chilly Colorado fall.

I had fun writing in the sand, so of course I had to do a tribute to Mrs. Colorado!

Mr. and Mrs. Colorado enjoying the sun!

Shipwreck Beach.....this is my "Happy Place".

Enjoying the water!

Our final day, getting ready to throw my lei back into the ocean. The myth is that you must give your lei back to the ocean to assure a return to the islands. Being the superstitious person that I am, I always have to do this!

Ladies Night Out - Parker

On October 1st I attended the "Ladies Night Out" event in Parker. It was a wonderful evening that I was glad to be a part of. I was asked to emcee the fashion show for Christopher & Banks, where some of the women competing for Mrs. Colorado 2010 were models. There were various booths set up with vendors geared towards women's interests. There was lots of jewelry, clothes, accessories, and much more!

With Raeanne Duca (left) and Emily Stark (right). Raeanne is the owner of the Royal Image Boutique, and set up some of her great clothing and accessories. Emily, the Director of the Mrs. Colorado Pageant, had fliers to hand out to potential candidates.

It was absolutely adorable how excited these girls were to take their picture with me! And the cutest part of all is how the little girl on the far left is posing with my autograph picture. These are some of the greatest moments of being Mrs. Colorado.

And the girls always seem to love when I let them wear my crown. I must admit though, I still get excited when I wear my crown, too!

Mrs. Colorado Program Book Cover Photo Shoot

One of the most exciting elements of winning the Mrs. Colorado title is that in 2010, my picture will be featured on the cover of the official program book. It is a tradition each year that the cover of the program book is kept a secret.....even from the Queen! The photo shoot took place on October 1st with official pageant photographer Megan Anderson of Graphique Fine Art Photography. Some very fun and unique photos were taken, and I can't wait to see how they turn out!
My make up for the shoot was done by Make-Up by Kari/Kari Kisch. And on the set to provide her expertise was Christina Sacha of Creating the Perfect You, and the "visionary" of the cover, Pageant Director, Emily Stark.

Harvest Fest at the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey

The 8th Annual Harvest Fest was held on September 26th and 27th on the grounds of the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. The weather was amazing, and the turnout was great! During this event, vendors set up with food and crafts, while the winery offers tastings of their award-winning wine. In addition, visitors can participate in the grape crush for one of the winery’s most popular wines, the “Wild Canon Harvest.” This wine features grapes from all over Canon City and surrounding areas, and is absolutely delicious! While people are mingling during the festival, musical entertainment is provided as well. This year my dad’s band, Deja Bluz, serenaded the crowd.
Making appearances as Mrs. Colorado in my community are always very special to me, and I was honored to sign autographs and help promote the Harvest Fest. The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey has supported me as a sponsor during my year as Mrs. Colorado, and I was glad to give something back to them.

This is Tom Lockhart, the featured artist who created the posters for this year’s event. In addition, his artwork will be on the upcoming Riesling and the Syrah. The painting we are standing in front of is the original piece, which is available to buy. To find out more about Tom and his art, check out his website at http://www.lockhartfineart.com/.

To the right of me is Mimi, who is the owner of “Mimi’s Gems.” And pictured on my left is my good friend and the jewelry designer for Mimi’s Gems, Suzanne. She has created all of my stunning and unique pageant jewelry the last two years. Check out their website at http://www.mimisgems.com/.

Mr. Colorado decided to make an appearance, too!

What a bunch of cuties!

Bare Escentuals “Preview Night”

September 15th was the Cherry Creek Mall Bare Escentuals “Preview Night” for the new holiday collection. They invited their VIP clients to come in and purchase the holiday collection for one night only, until its official release on October 2nd. I was happy to help them out for this great event.

In front of me is the beautiful holiday collection. They have a lot of great kits to offer, with some very festive colors.

Jeffery used all the colors from “The Surprise Collection” on me.

These two were on a scavenger hunt for the company they work for. I was glad I could be of assistance by letting them cross “borrowed jewelry” off of their list. They pretended to borrow my crown and one of my earrings.

This is one of the friendliest and most helpful make up crews around!

My "Mrs. America" Experience

“To believe in yourself and to follow your dreams, to have goals in life and a drive to succeed, and to surround yourself with the things and the people that make you happy -this is success!"
-Sasha Azevedo

As I sit here at home after my time at the Mrs. America Pageant, I reflect on my journey and feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. I’ve always been a believer in that if you try hard, you will achieve greatness. I had the time of my life while in Tucson and I made some great friends, with one in particular who will be a dear friend forever…..my roommate, Mrs. Nebraska. My experience culminated in my placing as a semi-finalist in the top 11. There were 51 amazing women who vied for the title of Mrs. America, and to stand amongst the top 11 of them was a moment that I will remember forever. Although I didn't come home as Mrs. America, I still get to hold the title of Mrs. Colorado…..which is a HUGE honor! Home truly is where the heart is! I am so thankful to those who have genuinely helped and supported me. You were the wind beneath my wings, and I share in this great victory with you.

I started off being really good about keeping up with updating my blog while in Tucson. However, as I was warned, they kept us VERY busy and my “spare time” was best spent catching some much needed shut eye. So, this blog posting will be the last part of my Mrs. America experience in a nutshell.

SHOPPING AT LA ENCANTADA – September 3RD

They surprised us with an afternoon of shopping at the La Encantada mall. I don’t think that poor mall knew what hit them after 51 pageant women left!

Here is a group of former Miss Universe Organization competitors. Whether we won our state title, or just participated as a state competitor, this group represents the “married version” of our MUO days.

Me and my roommate inside the St. John store. They were kind enough to provide champagne, strawberries and cream puffs for us all.

THE TRADITIONAL “SWIMSUIT PHOTO SHOOT” BY THE LOEWS VENTANA CANYON SWIMMING POOL – September 5th

I woke up bright and early at 4:30 am for the traditional “Mrs. America pool photo shoot” on September 5th. As nice as it would have been to go back to bed after this early morning, we had a quick breakfast and then off to rehearsals for the day.

SEPTEMBER 5TH REHEARSALS AND THE TRADITIONAL "CANDIDATE GIFT EXCHANGE"

It seems like any down time during rehearsals was filled with taking candid photos

The annual candidate gift exchange was a very fun evening. Each candidate is asked to bring a small gift of friendship for the other 50 delegates. I was so thankful to have my friend Debi Moore, the owner of Fandies Candy Company, donate truffles with crowns on top for my gifts. We placed our gifts to each candidate on their chair, and needless to say, the piles got VERY high! The same night as the gift exchange, we were also asked to bring our state costume so as you can see, for some reason, I was wearing my headpiece. Let me just say, it was a LONG day!

INTERVIEW – September 6th

Here I am in my state costume. I was a very “sentimental snowflake”, because this headpiece belonged to Tricia Dampier, who held the title of Mrs. Colorado 20 years ago this year. I was the first Colorado titleholder since her to wear it.

FINALS – September 8th

One last picture with my awesome roommate, Mrs. Nebraska/Jennifer Hart. I was SO fortunate to have had a roommate that I will be friends with for the rest of my life!

Christina is one of my very best friends, and I’m so thankful that she guided me along this Mrs. America process. With her own image consulting business, “Creating the Perfect You,” she is truly a visionary at making women into the best they can possibly be.

I will have more pictures to show from prelims and finals at a later date. Hope you've enjoyed watching my journey as much as I enjoyed taking it. Thanks again for your support!
