Why join Mrs. Arapahoe County in participating in the Autism Society of Colorado's Walk with Autism 2022?
I am a mom to four, ages 13-18, and three of my kiddos are on the autism spectrum. My oldest, Isaiah, has moderate autism. He was diagnosed at age 22 months. My daughter Calista was diagnosed at age 33 months, and my daughter Jasmine was diagnosed at age 9. Autism presents a unique, challenging journey that is lifelong. right out of the starting gate, it is a journey that challenges your dreams and is many times filled with great anxiety, yet we also have opportunities to celebrate the smallest of victories. chances are you know someone who is directly affected by autism. Autism families need as much support and access to as many resources as possible since the lifelong costs of autism are high and include covering medical care, mental health care, and long-term disability care.
Autism is a complex developmental disorder that now affects approximately one in 44 children in the United States. Boys are diagnosed with autism more than girls, four times more, in fact. In childhood, it's characterized by difficulties and social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviors. The exact cause of autism is unknown. Research does show that environmental or genetics could decide whether a person can develop the disorder.
Won't you join me on this important fundraiser to help autism families in Colorado? If you are unable to join me in the walk, please consider sharing the fundraiser so others are aware! Our goal is to raise $500 for Walk with Autism 2022!
